Steven Grimshaw entered the upholstery trade straight from school and served a traditional five year apprenticeship in Cheshire, a county rich with antiques and high class furniture. He gained a wealth of experience and developed an absolute passion for traditionally crafted upholstered furniture.

In 1984 Steven, and wife Judith, moved north of the border to beautiful Dumfries and Galloway and by 1985, “Brass Tacks Upholstery Services” was founded.

Steven and Judith between them have over 50 years of experience in the trade and pride themselves in offering the best possible service, to anyone appreciating traditional Quality, combined with total value for money. Although specialists in high class traditional upholstery , they also undertake modern, contract and bespoke quality work.

Since 1987 they have held membership of the AMUSF and are very proud to be connected to the industries premier association.

In 1993 Brass tacks moved into their current premises, where the retail of furniture, bronzes, lighting and decorative items expanded to become a major part of the business, so much so, that, in 2001 “Brass Tacks Sales” was established as a separate business. This entity encompasses all of the sales and is managed by Judith.

Brass Tacks has retailed fine quality furniture for the past 20 years and has now evolved into retail of upholstery supplies for the D.I.Y. and professional market. This is coupled with private upholstery courses, offering the budding crafts person, the opportunity to learn this, the most rewarding of forgotten crafts.
